Good afternoon :)
over the past few weeks i have been replacing all the interior worn out switches, climate control unit, ect etc on my 02 reg A2 to freshen up the car
i am now on to the radio
the car currently has the original chorus 2 radio cassette head unit fitted (not the bose option)
and just fancy upgrading it to a chorus 2 radio /single cd player
would this be a straight forward swap over or are they different variants to match the cars chassis no
any information would be grateful

Hi,

If you have a Chorus 2, (two knobs), then its a straight swap for the correct Concert 2 (equivalent, two knobs but CD instead of tape).

You will need the right Concert 2 variant to ensure that the front panel is the right size and shape for the A2. A Concert 2 from an A2, A6 (C5 platform) or MK1 TT are all compatible.

warm regards

Andrew

cheers for that Andrew
don't suppose you would know if a concert 2 from an A3 would fit ? (it looks the same but won't know until fitting 1 )

thanks Mark

The only issue you may have is the fascia, which you may need to "modify" to get it to fit snugly in the slot.

As mentioned an A3 Concert fascia will need trimming. It will work fine

I know this as I was testing an A3 unit for a couple of weeks in my A2 but I did notice VCDS would not talk to it under Autoscan, having previously set car type to A2. I suppose if I said the car was an A3 VCDS would have communicated correctly.

The fascia is too wide on the A3, but unlike the other Concert 2 units, the A3 version uses different CAN bus signalling and so won't work properly in the A2 (DIS display for example). Its a good donor for parts though, e.g. buttons.

As I found out, nothing a cheeky “dremelling” won’t sort out....
