Cheap, non-approved oil that meets 507 spec - Logic & facts

I see @spike you have now deleted your post, to which I’m glad as I failed to see how it added anything to this thread - as both articles stated that this Mannol oil meeting 507 specs is not in doubt.

Just looked tonight with voucher £43.90 for 20 Litres that’s is crazy cheap ..I will stick with Castrol edge 5-30 call it Loyalty or habit ..but for those of you not bothered a true bargain.?

Yes I did as the links provided were not really in context without more background info.

What got me was they promote the oil as meeting BMW, Mercedes and Porsche specs in addition to the only - VW 504 / 507 - spec they have approval for
In spite of being investigated and taken to task by Trading standards they continue to sell the oil labelled as meeting all those specs. Each to their own but that's not a company I'd want to deal with.

Lots of claims and counter arguments about Mannol here

Cheers Spike

20 litres of Mannol 7715 507 oil is back down to £43.19 when used with the eBay 20% off code save20

Hope it helps someone, I’ve just bought another for stock, along with some febi drop links and front brake pipes, all 20% cheaper.

Andy
Thank you!

Now even cheaper at £40.49 with no voucher !
That pushed me over the edge!!!

I will soon have 80l of oil in the garage!
Having said that, because 507 spec is higher than any other manufacturer’s, you can use this oil in just about any other car - e.g. my brother in law needs an additional car for his girlfriend to use in addition to Audrey now that they are both back at work; so I helped him source and collect a lovely 2009 Fiesta diesel in Titanium (top of the range) trim with 66k miles on it, fitted with the PSA TDCI engine that is known to be susceptible to sludging given half a chance.

This oil is much better at resisting that than the spec Ford set for it, so I’ll do a couple of low mileage interval changes on that too so he can be sure any gunk will get flushed out gently.

I bought some back in May, I don't remember reading this on the eBay page , wonder what that is all about?

Update: This has now arrived.

Curiously, this batch of 20l arrived in one large plastic barrel rather than 4x traditional 5l tins. This means I’ll use the tins up first and then will refill them when all empty - as I can’t really be doing with lifting the barrel to get out 4l or so a time at each oil change!

I know some prefer to pay the extra money on approved / big brand engine oils, however I think it’s worth mentioning once again that @depronman has had this exact oil analysed and compared to the official VAG group Quantum 507 specification engine oil in a lab and found them to be almost exactly identical.

Therefore I think given this Mannol is pretty much the cheapest 507 spec oil on eBay when you buy it in larger quantities like this - I think we can safely say we have answered the challenge posed by the title of the thread ?

I think this total of 80l of good quality oil I now have will mean I don’t need to buy any for many years even with half yearly or 5-8000 mile changes and using it across any other make of car that needs a 5w/30 grade (see post 14 for the link to the engine oil specification visual comparison tool to see for yourself how good & superior the VAG 507 spec is compared with any other manufacturer’s).

I’ve done some research and engine oil is recommended by many manufacturers to have a shelf life of 5 years - however some don’t even specify a shelf-life; I suspect turning the container upside down and giving it a good shake before use to remix the various additives etc. will be all I’ll ever need to do beyond 5 years.

Interestingly, a supplier I use for parts for my Touran has started selling Mannol 7715 as "VW Approved"

This prompted me to take a closer examination of Mannol's website - I clicked and downloaded the TDS sheet and there I see that it is indeed approved by VAG! Why don't they shout about this more I wonder?

So there you have it, this thread has now turned a full circle - Mannol 7715 is both cheaper than almost any other non-approved 507 oil on the market AND it's actually VW approved!

Hi all,

I've just come across Fanfaro 6719 which is also Volkswagen Audi Group approved to 507 spec and is at the time of writing much cheaper than Mannol at £66.99 delivered for 20l as opposed to the Mannol which has risen by 50% in price to £89.99 for 20l!

Thought it would be appreciated to include it here. Note that once again, 507 specification is so high it eclipses all other 5w-30 oil specifications so you can use this in practically any car that demands this viscosity grade (irrespective of whether petrol or diesel engined).

I paid 66.99 back in May 2021, above is the price today, check the date in the screen shot.
So its basically only gone up a tenner if bought today.

The screenshot clearly says it has Volkswagen approval?
The eBay seller, "Carousel Car Parts LTD. Artiom Samoilov" says it's approved.
The manufacturers, Fanfaro, do not.
Ebay sellers sometimes get a bit over enthusiastic with their descriptions. Manufacturers are, (usually), more careful.

Fanfaro, and Mannol seem to be owned by SCT Lubricants Group. SCT have factories in Lithuania, and in the Republic of Belarus.
Not sure about Lithuania, but Belarus is best mates with Mr Putin.

Mac- look at Fanfaro's website - it clearly says the oil in question (6719) is Volkswagen approved.
