Check engine light turned off

Afternoon,

My A2 threw up an orange check engine light yesterday, so I got in touch with one of the members on the register and they kindly agreed to do a scan for me this week. However I needed to a short trip in the car today. The check engine light was on for the journey there, but when I started the car to come back it had disappeared.

Now I am no expert on mechanics and was wondering if someone a fair bit wiser than me could advise whether it is still worth doing the scan and if anyone had any ideas why the light would have gone out?

Cheers

I may be wrong about this, but I believe that if the car doesn't detect the problem appearing for a certain amount of time/miles, it will turn the light off. Uma did this a few times before I replaced her intermittently working MAP sensor.

This could be it, do you know if it will still show the fault code when it is scanned?

Yes, unless the fault code has been cleared via VCDS, it'll stay. That's why it's best practice to scan>clear >drive>scan again.
Mac.
Thanks for the info, I guess we'll just need to see what the scan throws up.

It was scanned by a garage earlier in the year when no. 2 coil pack packed in so hopefully they cleared it then.

Your 'about' info suggests your car is 2002 which I thought was AUA though it has a combined coil as opposed to individual coil packs on the later BBY engine. Either way, we can read codes tomorrow.

Ours has the same problem for last 12 months☹️I give it some stick for a few miles then it normally goes out!

@PlasticMac is right, although the light went off on Uma, the code still remained until it was cleared. The car has no way of "self clearing", I think the EML just went off as it didn't happen again.

It's a 52 plate, but I've just been out to check and it looks like a BBY. Although I have been wrong about things like this in the past.
