Check your front suspension arms people

Testers may not be able to use a wire brush, but they can press, prod and poke with fingers and use their corrosion assessment tool if necessary. This is a nylon headed hammer with a scraper built in too.

Since the test changed in 2018, testers have been encouraged to find corrosion as the number of people keeping older vehicles on the road has increased.
Michael , have you replaced your pressed arms with pressed, or with forged?

@Leopard680

Yes frequent rinsing of the underbody does help. But take it one stage further. As the pressed wishbones rust from the inside out spray Waxoil or equivalent when rust free as possible and follow up with routine WD40 as that displaces the trapped water.

Certainly more frequent cleaning during winter is required but do not blast off the applied protectant as you do so.

I replaced the failed one with forged. I've never got around to the other side, so have one pressed and one forged and have run this for around 18 months now with no ill effect. I've approached WOM to do the other side this year when they have time.

What's the recommendation brands wise, now that LEMFÖRDER, TRW, and Genuine VAG are all no longer available?

I was going to go with MEYLE before reading through this thread, but it looks like they are the worst of the bunch, it sounded like the only dimensionally identical ones were LEMFÖRDER/TRW?

Thanks
