Cherished Registration Marque...

Hi all,

I have a question about a cherished registration marque which has been held on retention for some years. The purchaser passed away and there is no nominee on the document.

Does anybody know what should happen with this marque? What would the DVLA do with it?

Thanks all.

As long as the £25 annual retention fee was paid it is still the 'limited right' of the bearer. If it lapses DVLA takes back ownership rights - hence I have to pay every year and get a new retention certificate.

I think in this case you can argue it is part of the deceased estate and goes to the beneficiery. There might be guidance on the DVLA site - or call the local office.

I have tried the DVLA site but nothing? I would have thought this scenario comes up a fair bit!

I will call the DVLA office in the morning and see what they have to say.

Its my understanding though that only the Grentee (the name on the top of the paper) can apply for its extension? In this case, nobody else can apply for its extension?
