Chip-Tuning TDi 75

Well gents, I am close in buying an A2. However, that fact that the engine is only tdi 75ps is bothering me....I would like to chip tune. RE-mapping is out of the question as on this Island, Malta, no one do them yet. So it must be chip-tuning.

I was looking at Chip-Express :
http://www.chipexpress.com/diesel-tuning-box-audi-a2-1.4-tdi-kit-39.html

It guarantees a minimum of 100bhp.......this doesn't look like it's only a resistor to fool the ECU.

What you think? is it worth it? Any of you have one? Maybe other suggestions? Is it safe for the engine?

Thanks
Damien.

Hi Damien
That tuning box sounds quite good. Something similar is sold by Tunit. Diesel Car magazine often tests their products and they seem to come out well.
These reputable brands are as safe as a remap.
I assume its difficult to find a chip tuning specialist in Malta with a rolling road as a custom remap usually gives better results and can be cheaper. The only advantage with a tuning box is you can sell it if you change the car.

Thanks Spike.....

Yes, I never heard of re-mapping in Malta.....just chip-tuning.
Superchips also have something similar....if I understand correctly, it is more like a re-map that you can do at home your self.......

Thanks
Damien.

Hi Damien
You probably know all this but here goes - Re-mapping and chip tuning are the same thing and are general terms for re-programming the engine ECU for better performance. Originally, tuning firms used to replace the chip within the ECU so the new software could be loaded. Now the more common way is to download the software via the diagnostic port (On RHD A2's this is under the dash, directly above the throttle pedal.
As you indicated, the Superchips 'Bluefin' system provides the tool to download the software at home. At present they don't appear to do a kit for the A2 - http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/
I think the system only allows you to load the software into one car so you can't buy one kit and tune your friends motors.

Spike,

Thanks for the information. Yes the bluefin idea is great......but as you said, A2 not listed. I will contact them and see what they say.

Well, they all claim the same power output....but what I cannot understand is how it is possible to increase the power and use less fuel! Because you need to add more fuel inorder to get more power, or you increase the boost level of the turbo, but if you keep same fuel flow, than you get leaner........I don't beleive that it will use less fuel for more power......because if that is that case, the factory would use that spec. But it is worth a try :)

Thanks Spike,

Damien.

Hi Damien
The curse of modern diesel engine efficiency is the requirement to meet the Euro emissions standards. Cool combustion is required to reduce NOX levels and the way they do this is to use EGR and run retarded injection timing. Chip tuning can advance the timing which gives more power and improved engine efficiency. Providing you don't use the increased power all the time then you should see some improvement in fuel economy.

If you fit a tuning box or use the Bluefin system I'd recommend you have a diagnostic scan to ensure the engine is performing correctly before installation. You could always put a Ross Tech VCDS diagnostic tool on your Christmas list - http://ross-tech.com/vag-com/index.html

Hello

I would like to get a remap done on my car. I had my audi a2 1.4TDi for 3 months and did not do any modifications to it. I find it just a tiny bit slower than my friends car as i have to rev alot; they have ford fiestas 1.25 and saxos etc.. the boring cars. I need my bhp abit more than 75. So i am wondering by using this product below.

http://www.tdi-tuning.co.uk/audi/a2...el_tuning_box__audi_a2_14_tdi_75_bhp_P93.html

How do i plug it in? Lol. Can i do it myself or do i go to a garage?

Thanks.

Syfee91,

Your better off going to Stealth and getting a proper remap done instead of a plug in box, as it'll be done for your car instead of a generic map.

Also vince from stealth has a very good rep for doing a sound job on A2's from this forum.

I myself will be getting mine done there in the next month or so

I've not seen this tuning box but normally they have a male and female multi pin connector which connects the box into the injector wiring loom
1) unplug the injector harness (gearbox end of cyl head)
2) plug the connector from the tuning box into the connector at the cyl head
3) plug the injector harness back into the other end of the tuning box multi pin connector
4) you need power to the tuning box so tap into a switched live feed (the reverse light switch wire is one option) and find a good earth for the -ve wire.

I'm sure all the instructions will be included.

Just be aware the similar sounding and well respected Tunit tuning box is around £400 so don't expect too much from a £99 copy

Cheers Spike

Stealth is a company / garage in southam.

They do rolling road remap. Loads of people have got it done on here and on a 75 most are getting up to 103 bhp post map.

Thats there site. Address is on there. Give them a ring as not entirely sure on pricing

Save your money mate, and take an early morning drive up into Warwickshire and see the guy's at Stealth. You wouldn't be disappointed as you make your journey back home, i have family in Rochester and i love the drive from Birmingham and around the M25 onto the A2 :D .
