Climate control just blows hot air

Whilst driving my '04 Tdi today with the climate control set to economy+auto i turned down the temp demand as it was getting a bit hot. Unfortunately the air coming out the vents slowed but still remained hot. Even when i put the temp setting to 'LOW' the fan speed increased as you would expect but all i get is really hot air out the vents. Tried taking it out of economy mode(turn compressor on) but still no joy just lots of very hot air!
Any advice appreciated,

It sounds very likely that your compressor is duff - happened to me in summer!!

It could possibly be a faulty sensor, but the acid test is to start the car, take off the Econ setting and stick temperature to low. Next, remove the bonnet andtake a look down the side of the engine to see if the centre of the compressor us rotating (the pulley will always turn, but the inner will remain static if it is U/S).

A torch may be handy.

I think the compressor is running as it sounds like it is coming on and off when i turn the econ off and then on. I have been looking at the pictures of the vent system on Elsawin maintenance manual and i think maybe i have a problem with temperature flap 1, which allows either hot air from the heat exchanger or cool air from the compressor to enter the car vents. I have read through some other related threads that sometimes the flaps/motors can stick. Perhaps mine is stuck in fully hot position?
Even if the compressor is U/S i should in theory this time of year be able to get the cooler outside air into the car with the compressor off, but i wasn't even getting that just lots of hot air.

Thought the problem was fixed as all ok for last couple of days, but yesterday the continuous hot air returned!
I think bretti_kivi is right i need to get a vagcom test done. Do i have to go to Audi for this? i hope not as i really don't like our local dealer(Yeovil, Somerset). Or can i go to any VW/Skoda dealer or preferably even a private independent for a scan?
 
My fan just will not blow!!

Very inconvenient as the winter is here in Norway. My air-condition fan just stalled. The aircon works fine, but fan will not blow. Changed the cupe filter two days ago, and it worked fine afterwards. Ay ideas?

When I press the fan indicators "+ button" the panel lights up, but then adjusts down again as nothing happens (read - the fan don't spin).

The fuses seem fine.

Any ideas?
