I think my clutch is about to give up...loss of power and fuel, and the clutch bite being really high....are these early signs of a Audi Clutch about to give?

Been quated for parts:

Audi: £189..
GSF: £120..
Europarts: £145..

Any difference in quality, value, drive etc...anybody with past experience?

Thanks

Dev

By loss of power do you mean slipping? In my experience clutch slipping is your last notification of impending total failure

In the past (with my other cars) i've found GSF to be the best price wise and never had a problem with any aftermarket item from them.

just a little note:I’ve noticed a lot of people swear blind by OEM equipment. My dad drives his A4 hard and changes his front & read brake disk every 18 months or so at Audi main dealer for a heap of cash, about £380.

Once while picking up some spark plugs at an independent auto spares shop based 5 minutes drive from this same Main dealer, a well know mechanic of their’s pulled up in a plain white van wearing audi overalls that were slightly obscured by his bomber jacket, and proceeded to “pick up” 10 packs of Audi A4 aftermarket Front Brake disk and a heap of after market pads.

These were the exact same items costing £49 for front disk and pads, that my dad had previously turned his nose up at when I suggested he buy them and save him self some cash having them fitted by an independent.

Sorry if this isn't really relevant but i just thought i'd mention it  Anyway, there are some parts that I will happily go after market with like brake disks, and others that I’d try and stick to OEM, like clutch! With regards to your qoutes if it says OEM on all three items here i'd go with the Cheapest, as it will / should be the exact same item in all 3 instance, differentiated only by packaging.

clutch

Cheers mate!

I wanted to know the difference on the actual clutch quality and feeling (Bite).

Audi have told me if I were to purchase there clutch, they offer a buy back part service which will reduce it down to £150 odd...

but I may go for Europarts as I maybe able to get trade discount ;) Dont know how much but also may do the buy back part service too!

Will keep you posted! :D Cheers

Hi Dev
If you buy a clutch from Europarts and get a garage to fit it then it can be a nightmare if things go wrong. The garage is likely to blame the parts and require payment to strip and replace the clutch and Europarts would not pay the labour even if the clutch was faulty. Its always much safer to get the garage to supply and fit, whether its Audi or an independent

Cheers Spike

Hi Fella

I've 173,000 miles on the original clutch...

I've had cheapo brake discs they were shocking, so at next change my mate put on the ones Audi use, so far so good.

As for your clutch...
If the difference is only £30/40 I'd go for the audi clutch.
I'll be fitting an Audi one, when/IF this one goes... hopefully not before I've done 200,000. hahaha

You had shocking performance from cheaper disks? That's a strange one. Usually if they fit correctly there isn't a problem, unlike like pads. The variance in the performance of brake pads is far and wide, indeed I had after market 'performance' Mintex pads once on another car and they point blank refused to stop the car in any situation. Their only + point was they didn’t make any brake dust, and with hindsight I understand why. But disks the same size and shape & spec as the ones coming off your vehicle usually perform.

Ditto i've never seen Audi 'patented' brake disk on standard cars, only super high performance ones. Im sure 90% of Audi brake disk are made by 3rd party disk suppliers and these disks can be found on cars throughout the entire VAG range and in some instances sold as OEM equipment from parts shops.

But it's the owners choice at the end of the day. I'm just saying in my own experince Audi have fitted and sold brake disk purchased directly from high street car parts supplier.

what's the cost for audi to replace the clutch, including labour and do we have the dreaded dual mass flywheel on the A2 ?

clutch issue

I've decided on a Valeo Clutch at £130 and £160 labour from my local garage...trusty and realiable tbh :)

Audi were asking around £550 for clutch and fitting btw "~ No thank you!!

Will keep you posted on the outcome ;)
