code reader

My engine management light came on the other day and now the car has started to run a bit jerky bit like a mis fuel problem i have tried to connect it to my code reader but it fails to connect any ideas anyone.Tony.

does the obd reader not work on these then.

Yes any code reader will work it’s just that VCDS is know to provide the proper fault codes info where as scan tools can be more generic and therefore not as helpful

The A2 due to its age does not need a fancy version of vcds for code reading and fault light clearance. A £5 cable from eBay and the free ware version of vcds is all that is needed unless you want to get into coding things then you need a better more ‘full fat’ version

It should
Check the fuse for the Kline in the fuse box under the steering wheel. If it’s blown then the obdII port would not be available
I can’t recall the fuse number from memory

Why you trying to connect too ? Engine I assume
Which engine do you have in your A2
The petrols are more picky about connection speeds than the tdi (edc15+ ecu)

If it is the injector loom that is failing that will not show up on a scan. How old is the fuel filter? Any signs of leaks around the tandem pump?

had a little look around cleaned the MAF sensor and the lights gone out and its back to running fine ?

still like to find out why the reader not connecting will have to try another one. Thanks to everyone ?

Certainly worth doing so as there will come a time that you need the Info that only a scan can provide particularly as its pointing towards the car being the problem not the scanner

looked on youtube and it could be the pins on the reader some cars are more sensitive on the connection than others so will try another one ?
