comfort control unit?

So I only have to install or swap the Q for the AF and switch the blades out the ends of my Q original keys and the blades in the AF keys?

Basically yes, as long as when you refer to 'blades' you mean the top half of the original Q key fob. Besides housing the key blade the top half of the key case contains the essential immobiliser chip that allows the starting of the engine.

the key fob pulls apart into two halves, you can assist it coming apart with a flat bladed screwdriver about 5mm across, insert it into the slot and have some one pull the two halves apart whilst you carefully twist the screwdriver, the two halves will separate. You use the blade end with the fob from the AF CCCU

all in all a 5 min job to swap the two key fobs and the CCCU into the car

Thank you for the information, I'm away for a week so I'll follow up when back. Cheers
Back again. With ignition off and sidelights on I intermittently get the warning buzzer by gently rocking the door. I'm also able to release the fuel filler. What's the best approach to resolving this? I can hardly get my hand to the rubber loom cover next to the checkstrap. Is it accessible with the door card removed?

I feel for you buddy, I haven’t done mine yet as the weather has been atrocious. But they boys here have explained what I need to do, so fingers crossed I don’t screw it up.

Hi all
Ok so I swapped the cccu q unit with a cccu af unit. I changed the key fob batteries in both, I then changed 2 key blade ends and sync’d the keys. Both keys start the car no issue. One remote works no issue and one doesn’t, although both also lock/unlock/arm/disarm the car via the locks.

Any ideas for the second remote ? Can’t be a lot wrong as it works via the car lock and starts it ?

Only one fault scans now that’s a alarm horn but it’s probably a dead battery, I have a replacement part and will fit that next spring.

Pleased you are making progress, nearly there now.

It sounds like the problem key supplied with the AF unit is not paired with the AF unit. It needs to be paired with the AF unit with VCDS. Unless you have VCDS, you need to find a local member with VCDS who is prepared to do this, only takes a few minutes. I can do it for you but I am a bit far away, there must be somebody nearer. Where about in Bedfordshire are you?

As a preliminary precaution not to waste time, I would split both fobs and check the part numbers match (unless you have checked this), including any letter at the end. Check the battery in the problem fob is the right way round and properly seated, maybe swap it for another, it may be a new dud battery.

Hi Andy

Thanks for your time, batteries are good deffo as I tested them, all 3.24v so strong voltage, I haven’t checked the part numbers, so I will crack the fobs open again and check that they match or whatever detail is. Like I said strangely they both open and lock and start but only one remote fob does this off the fob. So could just be a case of adaption of the key to the cccu. Let’s get the part numbers bit done first and report back any findings. I’m very close to St Neots so Beds/Cambs border.

It just struck me that you must have resynced the keys for the good one to work. Maybe for some reason it failed with the other one, worth doing it again before anything else. By resynced I mean something like open door, put key in ignition, switch on and then off, remove key from ignition and press unlock on fob.

Andy

Yeah I did the key in,ignition on then off then press unlock. Remote still doesn’t function but key in the door lock still locks/arms alarm-unlocks/disarms.

So when I open the key where do I find the part number so I can check it’s the right fob. It’s a AF fob with my top original key blade. Easy thing is when I unlock via the door lock it clunks to unlock all the central locking ?

When you split the fobs you will see it, probably 8Z0 837 231, with or without a trailing D.

The part number may be tiny, the fob on the left is crystal clear with a X 10 jeweller's eye piece! May well be numerous other codes, ignore them, but you should check the carrier frequencies match as well as the part numbers.

Andy

Wow see what you mean about small print haha

Ok the working one both remote/door is 433.92mhz
8z0837231 D
2024A6
34/03

Non working remote but door opening is 433.92mhz
8z0837231 D
2024A4
39/02

So.....

Clearly your two keys are not of the same stock, which I would have expected if they were as supplied with the car from the production line that contained your new AF unit. No matter, the part numbers and frequency match, one works so I see no reason why the other will not.

I am back to my gut instinct that you were supplied with a key not paired with the new AF unit but you need VCDS to make it work. I suggest you open a new thread something like 'Anyone local to St Neots with VCDS' and possibly a link to this thread.

To close, I have no idea about the other numbers on the fobs and amazing how pictures highlight grime.
