Completely locked out of A2

Can I just say a massive thank you to Tom for fixing my A2 he really does know them inside out and is a very pleasant, honest and genuine guy ... he will only fix the bits that need fixing. Awesome to find a repair guy that’s not there to fleece you. Thanks again. Highly recommend.
No surprise here - Tom is a talented engineer knows A2s from nose to tail, and is also a genuinely nice guy to boot.

Thanks guys brake pipe through rear door shut wound down back window
I'm so glad I found this post on the trusty A2OC.

I was loading shopping baskets into the boot of the car (the big shop) and for some odd reason, I put my keys on top of one of the baskets as I lifted them in then promptly shut the tailgate and click, the doors locked... I logged in to A2OC, did a search, read a bunch of ideas and options (started panicking at the potential cost to get someone out, or bust a window) and then found this post and figured it's got to be worth a shot. With a fresh roll of brake pipe (cost £15), I managed to open a big enough gap on the rear door with a couple of chisels wrapped in insulation tape, then pushed in a wooden wedge (to avoid scratching as much as pos) and then got to work trying to hook the rear window winder. Managed to get it down enough to remove the wedge from the door and use the gap in the window to continue the task. After about 10mins I had the window down and then hooked the keys from the top of the basket a few mins later. PHEW! That's all I can say.

This is why it's not a good idea to buy an A2 with rear electric windows ?

Evening,

Glad you’re all sorted now and without causing much if any damage.

I’m quite sure you’ve read this from the many times Graham @audifan has mentioned it around the Clubs pages along with thinking it yourself, but very the best upgrade for any ‘new to you’ vehicle or addition to a ‘well known to you’ vehicle is to obtain a spare key.

Although not the case on this specific occasion… Sometimes a taxi from the shops to home and back again will be cheaper than an auto locksmith or to cover the costs of any damage caused.

Plenty of really helpful information on here on how to program replacement keys.

Kind regards,

Tom
