Considering an A2

Hi all. Well I am leaving London shortly and have been forced to consider a more economical car as I will be commting 20 miles a day. I have been impressed by used reports on the A2. I like the styling and they are fairly rare plus have the Audi prestige. Just a couple of questions I wondered if you could help out with
- they all seem economical on the old juice but which is the engine to go for? have seen some nice 1.6 FSi's on sale
- are the servicing costs that bad as I have read about? mind you I have a VW which has lousy service and isn't that cheap
- any major faults ?
- lastly one review said it was cramped if you are over 6 foot ? is that right as I always thought the A2 was a tall car.

Thanks in advance for your help and hopefully look forward to joining your ranks

Hello Actonman and welcome.

Dealing with your last question first, I am 6'2" (we also have a 6'5" owner too) and the A2 is the only 'small' car that I don't have to have the seat all the way back to get comfortable.

Even with my spikey hair, there's loads of headroom, so you'll have no worries on that front.

As for servicing, it's no more expensive than any other Audi car, but if you use a good independant, it's a pretty cheap car to run. The only exception to this is repair costs, as most of the car is made of aluminium, which if it gets bent, is pricey to fix.

Engines - now you're opening a can of worms! Bearing in mind the forthcoming congestion charge changes, you'd be best off going for a TDi, post '53' reg to guarantee exemption.

Other than this, if you don't want a diesel, then the FSi is a good unit, more powerful on paper than the TDi and only a little less economical, but it is, as I say, a whole thread in itself!

Cheers,

Mike

I am 6'2" and I always put the car seat back but I am a bit of a slouch. The seats are good and comfortable though.

If someone gets in behind me, I can pull the seat forward a bit, still sit in comfort for a 100 mile trip, no problem, and whoever is behind me has always commented on the dropped floor making it comfortable to them too.

.

The only comment on space is that on RHD cars the clutch footrest is a bit narrow for my size 11 feet, but if I drive bare-foot then it's fine (which I do all summer!)

I have a LHD and I also drive bare foot with the exception of wearing socks:) all year round. It's lovely. The only hazzle is when it is wet to put the shoes in the passenger side foot well without staining the seat :)

Well thanks for all your comments. I think the A2 ticks all the boxes and still manages to be a bit more special than cars in it's class.
Have seen a few around for sale that look interesting, just need to flog my VW.
