Converting single DIN to double DIN sound system

I'm thinking of changing my single DIN radio to a double DIN unit with Apple Car Play. Do I need a different climate control unit to fit it where there is a cubby hole? Do I need any other parts?

Have a read through the following threads to see what others have done over time.

Thread 3

There are plenty of other threads stored on here.

Try using a google search for A2OC Double DIN Conversion.

The short answer is that you need quite a few things but there are option to do it in situ but just depends on how confident you are with DIY and fabrication. You can use your existing climate control unit, it will need to have the bottom corners rounded.

Paul @depronman will be able to help out with a 3D printed frame to put around an aftermarket head unit if this is the way you go. I’m sure his Pioneer Head Unit is within one of the linked threads above.

Aftermarket head unit will probably need switched power too. From fuse box, climate wiring or via some can-bus detector relay...

I also had the same idea but opted for an anycar Bluetooth system, a lot cheaper, easy to fit and gives you all you need as my iPhone is the control unit!

Afternoon,

I have had the Xcarlink fitted into my A2s for a few years now. This was first working along side a Chorus (tape/radio) then RNS-E 192 and now RNS-E 193, it works just as it should and is also good at handling handsfree calling.

Its not DAB+ but when its connected to my phone its perfect for listening to Virgin radio on the way to work.

EDIT:

Just looked at the Pure 600 and it looks good and much better on price. I guess it just depends on what you want on show as the Pure 600 does look nice on the eye. The Xcarlink however is totally out of sight.

Kind regards,

Tom

Pure Go 600 is brilliant - I have one installed in my Fiat 500e, but since my A2 has'nt got the original radio/cd-player anymore, I was thinking of swopping the cheap and nasty Sony FM/cd-player that the previous owner had installed for a unit that is more up to date and has DAB+.
Any suggestions?

The easiest, cheapest and best option imo is to fit what would have been in it originally and add a Pure 600. I looked at loads of options but this with BOSE was impossible to beat.

Hi Tom,

That link is for a unit that says Audi 2006-2012, is it definitely the correct unit?

thanks

Wait and I’ll double check David.

David you we’re very right in questioning the link. I did indeed link it to the wrong iteration, link updated. It must be the SKU718 unit.

Kind regards,

Tom

David,

Here is another thread covering Bluetooth options from a few years ago.

I jump in at Post #2 with the mention of the Xcarlink. The unit you’re after is the Xcarlink SKU718. This is what I have been using for a few years now and cannot fault it.

couple of links for purchase should you wish to do so:
