Coolant leak

I have got a 1.6FSE SI A2 and am having problems with the coolant, which is leaking.

The car is still under warranty and has been to the Audi service in Leeds twice now. After its second visit they were confident the problem had been fixed by changing a pipe, but the warning light on the dash has reappeared, and on checking the level it has gone to below the minimum mark again.

I am now travelling with a bottle of coolant for top ups in the boot - not ideal.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

I had a coolant leak - which was also a duff pipe connection. It hasn't re-occurred since being fixed.

Hi Mel, welcome to the A2oc.
A leaking water pump seal is another possibility. Luckily your car is in warranty as the whole pump needs changing if faulty.

Cheers Spike

I had the same problem losing coolant over a long period turned out to be the water pump. Sounds like it needs to be checked by Audi before the warranty exspires

The service dept of my local Audi dealers say the the coolant is leaking thru the pipes, which they haven't come across before and is the reason why it wasn't easily spotted on the previous two visits.

A request to also tighten the hand brake while they fix the leak has led to a quote of around £250 including VAT for replacement back brake disks\pads (sorry, the names of mechanical bits and pieces are instantly forgotten, useless I know). Not covered by the 3yr warranty, as down to wear and tear (37k miles from new Nov04) Does the quote seem reasonable?

As a new member, and one who knows nothing about cars I find this website very useful, and reassuring.

Great job to whoever is managing it

Seems a little on the pricey side to me, but then the labour charges are £88 per hour, so you're looking at about £175 in labour and £75 in parts.

Cheers,

brake pads and discs

yes they did this to me on my first service.
i think the offer of replacement pads and discs arises because thee is a bout 1cm of disc surface on the outer edge whihc is not scrubbed clean by the pads , presumably because they are chamfered to get them in in the first place.
when i got my a2 motd this april the station just passed it straight through with no probs brakes were fine. My advice is do not take them up on their offer and chance iton te mot when it arises . B y that time having read all the threads and been on the forum youll be abel to do it yourself!

I could get replacement discs and pads for around 55 pounds so wait
Paul
