Coolant loss? 1.4 Tdi

Hi all
Red warning came on for low coolant on investigation the level is below the minimum line but not massively below. Our 1.4tdi 75hp has done 160,000 miles but has received regularly servicing, timing chain replacement during its life.

As coolant is sealed for life presumably this is coolant loss, possibly a slow loss. Are there any 'usual suspects' to investigate first?

I would check the radiator for leaks and also the water pump.

If it is a slow leak you will be looking for a pink powdery stain. If you have a leak leak then just look for the wet patch.

Coolant is not sealed for life, the antifreeze and corrosion inhibitors deminish with age. I used to check the level of frost protection every service. Now I just replace the coolant every two years.
