Cracking Sump

I had to remove the sump on my 1.6 Fsi in order to fix an annoying oil leak. I have removed the sump and the oil pump, replaced the crank seal and oil pump metal gasket.

When I then cleaned the sump I noticed cracks on the inside and some noticeable on the outside. So I removed the sump from my breaker which has less miles on it and it too has similar cracks, anyone else had this issue should I buy a new sump?

This is apparently caused by repeated heating and cooling cycles, also a problem with aluminium chip frying pans! It can be repaired though! Have the sump professionally cleaned so it is just like new. Then phone Loctite on 0121 505 3120 and ask them nicely as they normally only treat new items in quantity. They will impregnate your item with resin. Info courtesy of the July 2019 MG Octagon Car Club magazine!
