Crankshaft sensor replacement

I'm tackling this tomorrow and just have a couple of questions?

I've read the online workshop manual but am just a bit unclear, do I need to drain the engine oil fully or with there just be a little in the oil filter housing to be drained?

Also I can't seem to find the replacement gasket for the oil filter housing does anyone know a part number for this?

Are there any other gaskets/seals that will require replacing?

Finally just a a rough idea does anyone know what sort of time this will take?

Thanks in advance.

I'd say that there's a minimum would need replacing - probably just the gasket that holds the oil filter housing on to be honest. You can get a better idea from this section of the manual:

http://workshop-manuals.com/audi/a2/power_unit/3-cylinder_tdi_unit_injector_engine_(1.4_ltr._2-valve)_mechanics/engine_lubrication/lubrication_system/oil_filter_bracket_with_oil_cooler_exploded_view/

Why not have a word with an Audi dealership if/when you order the parts from them? You certainly don't need a top end kit, as you're not disassembling the top end.

Cheers,

Michael

Might be a daft suggestion but looking at it I think it can be done with the housing in place by removing the oil cooler from the bottom of the housing?? Has anyone ever tried this?

Am I right in assuming I'm going to have to drain down both the oil and the radiator to do this?

Thanks.

If you can do it this way, then go for it - it's a job I've not tackled, so I can't give any first hand experience.

However, I have drained the coolant and the oil on many, many occasions and it's a very simple job. I'd say it's worth draining the old oil anyway, you can never change your oil too much (well, you can, but you know what I mean). Same goes for the coolant - it's a job that gets neglected often, so get yourself some G12++ or G13, get a new filter and 4 litres (the TDi 90 takes 4.1 litres with a fresh filter) of oil and do the full hit in one go.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi my Audi A2 I think the crankshaft sensor is one its way out would it set the engine management light on or not.
