Crazy Idea

Hey guys, I just had a crazy idea that i'd really like to see through but i need the help of the experienced ones out here to see if its possible. I was thinkin with a bit of cutting and sticking i reaaaaally want to put the new audi a4 "goatee" grill on the front of the a2...stupid probably....probs mess up the a2, but i just got a really good feeling about this? any thoughts?

Thanks, Naz

Hi Naz - been there done that!

Not actually, but in the design stage.

Trouble is that the bonnet shape is not suited to the new grille and also, the A2 has the service flap, which will be nearly impossible to integrate into the newer shape.

It'll look like a real lash-up too, as per Mk1 TTs fitted with the single frame grille - not a good match IMHO

Cheers,

Mike

Mike u poooed all over my idea, lol

oh well i think a few calculations n something might be possible....i was thinkin to attach it with screws that can be easily removed to get to the services....bit long winded but might be worth it

thanks for your insight though

Naz

Give it a try by all means and prove me wrong!

Trouble is, the A2 doesn't have a smooth front bumper like all the stuff with a new grille, so whatever you put on, it'll have to have a kink in it at some point.

Cheers,

Mike

Looks a bit strange but not the worst. I think maybe it needs some colour or fog lights on the car and it wouldnt look so plain

Don't lough (or quiet only;) ), there is one "custom" mod:

(But later I hope to find the images from the real good singleframe mod...)

Edit: You will not believe the type of paint this is on the bottom parts Front/ sill of that car: it is "Ofenbronze" = silver bronze paint /coated with oven brass... ( I think it is aluminium powder paint or so)

Opinions

not for me that one,
I prefer the look Naz was creating but agree with Richard, needs some fogs - to give it some width IMHO.
Also Naz I think you need to look at doing something with what is left of the original under bumper grill to match it in with the "new goatee" grill.
Personally I like the look of the from (with fogs) as it stands (although did flirt with the idea of looking for a fog/driving twin lamp idea (seen it somewhere and liked it))

Some very interessting photos but none of them really 'float my boat' (there's a little phrase for you Erstens - means, gets me excited).

The bumpers in isolation look great, but when they get on the car, somehow things don't look right to me - proportions are not right.

Cheers,

Mike

I just think that the A2 is a special car and any attempt to alter the grille will normalise it a bit. When I first got our car I wanted the slatted grille to make it appear to be the newer model.

Having owned it for a week or so though I realised that the smooth service panel is unique to this brilliant car and one of the reasons why I love it. I don't want an A3. I borrowed a brand new A4 TDi 2.0 S-Line when my car was in being fixed. It was fine. But it was just like any other car. I might as well have been in a 320d or a C220 CDi.

The only other Audi I would (love to) consider is the A8.

So I say we should celebrate the Serviceklappe!

Just goes to show there's no accounting for taste!

For me, a major part of the reason for buying an A2 was that it remains distinctive in the range of VAG offerings that look increasingly as though they are the progeny of incest.

Yeh i was always planning to get fogs, just lack of funding at the moment as i just bought it lol. Also someone advised me its not easy to fit light aftermarkets as they something always seems to not work right.
Erstens the pics you posted were sweeeeeet. Im think im growing to the idea of putting the grill on the front bumper instead of the hood, probs easier and looks very cool

Thanks everyone

Naz

Yes when i first got my A2 i looked on Ebay at the chrome grilles but none fit the A2 and after a while got over it, but none of the above floats my boat either, they just don't look right i think Audi got it right first time

Cheers Phil
