Creaking noise

Hi, I have a strange creaking noise coming from the front of my A2. It is intermittent but gradually getting more frequent. It seems to start up after being run for 5 or so miles. Audi have had it back for 10 days and couldn't find the cause even though they conceded the noise was there. They replaced the anti-roll bar and bushes and have returned it. It was ok for a short while but has materialised again. Any possible idea's as to the cause?
Thanks

I had a similar problem which turned out to be the roll bar drop link ball joints.

Thanks for that spike, does indeed sound like the problem. Did you find the noise to be there continually or was it like mine, intermittent.

It was intermittent and from what I recall, was initially more noticible at slower speeds. It is fairly easy to remove the roll bar drop links and check the condition of the ball joints which will move without resistance and show noticible free play if worn.

I did the job myself. My previous Audi 90 had a similar problem so when the A2 started creaking the roll bar drop links were the first thing I checked.

If the ball joints are worn you need to replace the whole drop link (a metal rod about 12" long which connects the end of the roll bar to the suspension strut) When I bought mine they were less than £20 each - though I'm not sure if the 1.2 has different front suspension.
No special tools are needed. Sorry I don't have any pics.
How far are you from Richmond, North Yorks? If you are prepared to drive over to my place, I'd be happy to give you a hand to check or replace the links.
