As I’ll have the steering wheel off in the near future infancy grabbing a cruise control stalk and adding this option

I believe it’s a fairly simple upgrade with the stalk being required and coding, is that correct?

Morning Steve,

Try this thread for FSI Cruise Control. You’ll need VCDS to activate (Post #315) this feature. There is loads of posts on here about it. Let me know if you get stuck and I’ll point you in the direction of a post that will help.

Failing that, you can of course get booked in with the legend @timmus, Tom will be more than happy to install this for you. There’s probably not many A2s driving around that didn’t have this feature installed by him.

Kind regards,

Tom

If you want to do it yourself rather than have Tom fit it then the Cum-Cartec kit is excellent. Available with the same stalk as originally fitted on the A2 or the later rocker type switch. You need to run the wiring to the clutch switch and into the ECU but full instructions are in the kit.

Use google translate from German to English.

@timmus is in Leighton Buzzard for much of the next three weeks. There is some time at the end of his schedule in early July, so do PM him to get booked in. He will supply and fit the stalk, and all necessary wiring looms which he manufactures himself to OEM standards, plus all the coding required to activate. As he'll tell you, other than @audifan's recommendation, many of the aftermarket looms are really only for LHD cars or for a Mk4 Golf even if they say they fit the A2, because underneath that's just a Golf electrically, innit

Thank you, Ian. I’m happy to squeeze cruise control retrofits into the schedule on many days. Having done hundreds of them, it’s a well-practiced process that can (almost!) be done in my sleep. ?

Indeed, many online kits that purport to be for the A2 aren’t actually suitable. Sellers assume that Mk4 Golf stuff will just work in the A2, but that’s not the case. If you’re going to do the job yourself, double check the compatibility of the product you’re considering purchasing.

Cheers,

Tom
