Curious about the A2OC site

Joga

A2OC Donor
Hi there, I have been more or less daily popping in here for half a year now and I am very impressed by it.
There is no advertisments (thanks!), but how does it work? Isnt there some expenses in drivning this?
Storage cost, SW cost(?), etc?
Oh, and could someone give more info on picture uploading, what are the actual limits? Some times my pictures seem too big.
And how futuresafe are the pictures? Is there a risk they will be lost due to third party actions, or are they sort of under the clubs control.

Just me being curious.. ?. Great site, atmosphere and admin team.

Thank you for your kind words :)

I couldn't tell you about running costs of the site, although I'm sure there will be some, for exactly the reasons you've given. We are funded by donations from our membership: if you should feel so inclined, there's a Donate option in the menu bar towards the top of the page.

The picture size limit is 3MB. To the best of my knowledge, anything uploaded is stored under our control.

Hello,
I hadn't noticed before this 'Donate' option so I've immediately checked to do it (I'm very grateful to this Forum for all the support its members offer to non-specialists like me, so I think that supporting its financial part is the least that one can do...) but the Donate page rejects my login name 'StefanoP' saying it doesn't exist. I shall obviously try to go on with a non-logged donation, but why does it happen? I tried to log off and back in again, nothing changed. I write this just to let te admin team know, it's not a big deal.
All the best
Stefano

I experience the same problem.

Donate is available from the main menu - an example below (second from bottom). I don’t use Taptalk, so I have no idea of how this works on that media.

The 'donate' option requires a second login to be created for the purpose. Nevertheless, the site seems to know who you are. Your second login is also needed if buying site Stuff.

I experience the same problem.

Same here when I tried to donate a while back.
What is the official stance - should it recognise the normal username/password or do we need to create another one?
I did the £2.00 donation upon joining to see the marketplace but i dont recall needing a separate login.

I agree it is not that clear/confusing. It was discussed some time ago and I remember the gist was 'the main club site has no facility to handle money but the separate environment of the club shop does, therefore it made sense to process donations through the shop, which requires a separate login.' If you have not donated or purchased from the shop before you will have to complete the (tedious) process of registering at the shop to enable a login to the shop (even though you reached it from the club site that previously required a login!!).

Hope that makes things a bit clearer, it does work (eventually).

It might be tedious, but sadly the shop and donations are a separate entity. At this juncture there isn’t a workable solution to make it seamless from here.

You need to create a new account to make a donation or purchase from the shop. From recollection, there is nothing stopping you from registering using the same details - email and password as on here.

Apologies that this is not as straightforward as it might be.

You might find your club password is deemed too weak to reuse and be forced into creating a stronger shop password, sense I suppose with financial details involved.

Suggest a lot of confusion will be removed if the shop login page had text information to the gist 'SHOP login (Note. Separate to A2OC login)'.

I suggested this a long time ago, sadly the volunteer nature of the club admins means that this hasn’t occurred yet.

Please note that the only person with editing rights to make format changes such as this is Ben, and like many of us, he has a full time demanding job and a young family.

Thank you very much for the explanation, I just did my duty without logging in with my usual username and everything went OK.
Best

I couldn't log onto the A2OC shop account using my email from when I signed up and did the initial £2 donation.
So I went through the donation process again too there on 17th Feb, didn't try to login with the A2OC username/password either & payment process went through fine, though I didnt think I actually created a new account - or at least, I dont remember putting a password in.
I did get an email about my account. So I tried logging in, no joy.
Used the reset password link via the email and this took me to the wordpress password reset portal.
Reset password, now I can log in fine - I don't see any history of the old £2 donation or the new donation I did on 17th Feb - so probably only shop orders would appear there.
Hopefully the donation made it to the A2OC coffers ok :)

John,

I have checked and confirm receipt of your generous donation, many thanks indeed for helping to support this vital resource.

Apologies for any confusion with the separate registration process.

Cheers,

Darren

This is now complete with a dedicated pop-up banner.

Thanks Darren, I noticed the banner yesterday when logging in.
The only confusion I had before was why I couldn't reset my password using email address in the shop account from when I joined, but no matter letting the system create a new account and resetting the password from the acknowledgement email worked. ?

Yesterday I donated to this fabulous club/forum/site.
How is the link between my forum name and email adress?
I mean, I went to the shop entered my name Adres etc, and before I knew it donation was done but still my name here on the forum only says "member".
Not a big deal, but I was wondering.......
