Dash cam recommendation please

Hi all. The A2 Tdi I got for my son to learn to drive in is becoming a family fave. I use it instead of my i3 as I'd forgotten how nice it was to play around with a manual gearbox. Also, with the rear seats out, its has become something of a cargo horse...what a fantastic design!

It'd be good to have a dash cam not only to capture general road madness, but also to have the ability to play through Jack's non conventional approach to roundabout exits, road positioning and cyclist overtaking.

Can anyone recommend one that starts when the car is switched on (and off when off), holds a few hours of video, then over writes its memory unless a button says to keep it? And can be fitted without a lot of wires all over the dash?

Thanks in advance.

(really nice forum BTW...everyone chilled and happy and not constantly angry!)

I have nextbase 412GW front and rear camera in one car and a nextbase in the other, both work perfectly. Halfords do their own make and if you buy from them I thinkthey will hard wire in pretty cheap as well.

Thank you for this. Looks like a nice unit. Do the wires just go around the inner windscreen?

I have two of these, great little cameras,

I have a Transcend DrivePro which has been reliable for 4-5 years. Remember the 12v sockets in the A2 are permanent live so you will need to plug/unplug the dash cam at the beginning and end of journeys. Alternatively you can wire into a circuit that is only live while running (easiest using a fuse box hardwire kit).
