Dashboard mounting brackets for PDA/phone etc

Hello again,

I'm researching the various dash mounting brackets available for the A2. Ideally I'm after one that I can attach to the right of the steering wheel (on a RND vehicle) above the vent area. I'm also loath to stick one to the glass - as they tend to look a bit scrappy.

The dashmount and Brodit clips are all mounted around the console area - which isn't very safe for a GPS device. Skipton01 - I seem to recall you had one mounted in that area - what sort of bracket was that?

At a push I could fashion one out of some metal clipped into the top of the vent area.

Ben.

Hi Ben,

The mount I've got for my O2 XDA2i is mounted on the vent itself - my ethos being that the vent is cheap and easy to replace, leaving no unsightly holes in the dash.

The holder part of the mount was from an online retailer and came with a glass mount arm. I've adapted it with a small speaker bracket, the sort with a ball and socket design. This was screwed and hot-melt glued to the mount and to the vent.

If you want some more photos, I'll post a few in the next couple of days.

The great thing about the phone being mounted here is that it's in your peripheral view and doesn't require you to take your eyes off the road. You can also tap power from the lighting switch directly below the vent.
