Diesel Or Petrol

Hello to you all,
just about to take the plunge in buying my first A2, i have always been a honda man but with ever increasing running costs the A2 looks as its going to fit the bill.could any of you guide me on the service intervals and approx M.P.G on petrol and diesil models and which A2 model is best my budget is £6000 so it may take some graft to find a good example.

i just bought a 1.4 petrol and am pleased with it, i wanted a diesel as i have other diesel cars and prefer the engines characteristics for day to day driving.
as this is a spare vehicle we weighed up the difference in purchase price compared to a tdi and the saving on fuel and picked a newer petrol version.
it's early days but my guess is around 40mpg average but up to 50 on a motorway run.
i was really tempted by the fsi models but the 1.4 seemed quick enough for my purpose and plenty economical enough, with no need for super unleaded fuel.
it's a good idea to try each version before you decide, good luck with the search.
