Difficult FSI cold starting

Good afternoon all,

having renewed most of my 1.6 FSI during the last six months, I'm driving her around a bit waiting, now, for a new windscreen. (Mine is badly scratched by the previous owner not caring to use the wipers without any windscreen washer fluid, etc.). It has been a long journey and the engine is still not OK, for example now it does take two attenpts to start her from cold. After it fires up, then it runs fine, with good power, a slightly uneven idle but nothing serious and the engine runs apparently quite well even at high rpms. No errors are visible in the scan, and before taking my chance in changing one part or another I'd ask for your collectiove wisdom. I have fitted new Denso plugs, new Bosch coils, the throttle body has been overhauled and the pumps were checked and found in good shape, the battery is OK, the engine spins freely on the starter...what would you look for, now? Thanks for your help....

All the best

Stefano

Hello Mac, it is a generic reader, I asked the local Audi dealer to check with their VCDS but they're fully booked for a few days...

Good plan. If you have a laptop, also worth considering installing the official, free "Lite" version of VCDS (download from Rosstech) and buying a blue KKL lead, for about a fiver (<10 euros) on ebay. Advanced features are limited, but full code reading is supported, for cars up to 2005 - 2006. I'd rate it an essential for an FSI.

Hello all and Mac,

the official Audi dealer ran its tests yesterday when pairing a new keyfob to the FSI and found no faults, all seems clean. I must say that this morning the car started faultlessly.... I hope that they fixed something without even telling me, it would be a very nice Christmas present! I'll keep you posted anyway. Thanks,

Stefano
