Difficulty starting cold and peteol smell

Hi. Those of you who were at Stanfrod hall will know that Mabel didnt want to start to go home.
She was the same yesterday, but I thought it was me pressing the accelerator whilst starting.
Had the same thing again this morning and I had to press the accelerator a bit (only took a couple of turn to start). But there is a distinct fuel aroma around her.
I the garage have squeezed me in on Thursday and I'm hoping it's just something cone a bit loose (starts fine when warm). Just thought of check if anyone else has experienced this please.
I'm not going to drive her until I get her to the garage as I'm worried there is a small fuel leak somewhere.
Thank you

I’ve heard that injector seals can cause a fuel smell and hard to start when cold have you had a look under the bonnet ?

A friend with an FSI had this problem. Fuel smell and problem starting. The problem was the low pressure fuel regulator leaking.

The position of the fuel regulator is indicated in this post on the left of the picture. You should be able to check easily if there is fuel leaking.

regards

Andrew

Thank you both. Just had a look and no sign of any leak. No real fuel smell in engine bay - but still smells inside the car. Will go home from work with windows open tonight to see if that fixes it. Looks like the low fuel regulator was changed when I had the inlet manifold done. All the pipes are new too.
And of course - she started from cold without hesitation just now.
Now going with a diagnosis of her having a crush on her mechanic! ?

It’s a Expensive crush specially with a mechanic £70 a hour ?

It is a leak. My mechanic cant see exactly where as need to take the manifold off. Unfortunately he doesn't have time to do until 21st so wouldn't be ready for Scotland. Thankfully another garage used by Steve_c can fit me in next week. And Steve has incredibly kindly offered to loan me his A2 for Scotland in the event that Mabel isn't ready in time.
Such a fabulous forum with awesome people ?
