Dip stick broken

I've read on here about broken dip sticks and thought I've been lucky as mine is still the original one and 151k miles on the clock. However, after a long and fast 320 mile trip to Cornwall last week I thought it best to check the oil level. I thought lets check it before the trip back and of course I removed the dip stick with the bottom piece missing. Had to happen sooner or later!

I checked on ebay and saw replacement dip sticks from £6 ranging up to £26 and they all looked much the same? Some might have been cheap copies so I ordered one from Audi instead at a cost of £11.22 + Vat.:D Collected it today and now happy. Interestingly, I noticed how much smoother it is going in and out when checking the oil level now;)

Hi Nigel,

are you quite certain that you have got the correct dipstick? - there are a number of different versions for A2s. The reason why I am asking is that an authentic Tdi dipstick from Audi is normally hugely more expensive than £11 quid and change / VAT. It is quite possible that it is correct and the deal of the century but it certainly aroused my curiosity. And if so - which dealer did you get it from if they have more?

best, Robin

Hi Robin,
Yes, all ordered according to the reg number plate, diesel and year etc. The receipt has all the correct info on and I checked it against the original as part numbers are on these are around the top ring. I suppose there's not much call on A2 parts these days so they have to move them somehow so lower prices will help do this?

Over the 13 years i had my A2 i lost 2 ends on Dip sticks, So i bought a new one but left the old in the engine then swapped them to check my oil, then swap it back again. Maybe consider doing this if you still have your old one.
