DIS Upgrade

Evening Edward,

Thank you so much for the information, I guess this CAN adapter would possibly also work with the ColorMFA. I may have to do a bit more research on this item.

This is exactly what I'm doing with the ColorMFA in Project OEM. I've got a 4F0910283B PDC control module which supports the 4 rear sensors with visualisation (OPS) support. It's already fitted but not working perfectly yet as I need to understand the pinout to add a LED which would be along the same wire as the OPS Off Button which is found in later Audi's. Without the OPS Off Button (or the just LED for resistance) I get a fault which won't clear and as such the OPS display in DIS just won't work, frustrating. I'm so close to completing this but when I thought I had time to play I ended up purchasing the PDK A2, this progressed into the other driver here taking on the OEM A2. I've not been able to tinker with the OPS display in DIS since then.

I'll get there though. Still interested in seeing the 3DColorMFD in action at some point.

Kind regards,

Tom

The 4F0910283B is a 8 sensor model? These models are natively supported with colormfd without the CAN converter

Evening Edward,

Thank you so much for confirming and sharing Sir. I missed your post above last month. I’ll look into this as on the ColorMFA Forum it’s suggested that the 4F0910283B control module is for 4 rear sensors with graphical support:

I’d be happy to obtain a revision D though as they’re not expensive.

Really liking this idea so must get my skates on and add ‘normal’ DIS to Project PDK.

Kind regards,

Tom

I've been a busy boy over the last few days

I bought a TDI DIS instrument cluster of @A2Steve a couple of week ago, and its been sat tawnting me since it arrived, well today was the day to get on with it.

I've been having a general read up as there are a few hurdles to jump through

The first thing was to make up a test rig so I could power the DIS cluster on the bench. I already have a bench rig made up for 'adjusting' ECU's, so this has been added too with the addition of the green and blue sockets from an old A2 wiring loom (thanks @Sarge ). Wiring was figured out with a bit of help from Google.

The cluster fired up with just a slight problem of 'FUSE' being displayed in the cluster miliage, a further bit of googling and a further +12v wire was connected and this removed the 'fuse' warning.

A few wires connected to ground and the warning messages are gone - all as per the cluster wiring diagrams

Next read out the SKC codes from the old and new clusters

Then VCDS to code the cluster to my A2, this all went well

Next adjust the kilometers of the DIS cluster to the same as the original cluster

power down the DIS cluster and power up again, bingo correct miliage

Power down and go trial fit it to the car

cluster power up fine, miliage is correct

Next code the keys to the DIS cluster, this all went well.

Start car - perfect

Made up the loom to connect the DIS stalk to the DIS cluster, up / down rocker and reset all operate the cluster as they should - result

Just ordered a replacement screen for the DIS display, soldering job when it arrives. Cluster is stripped down awaiting the display screen arriving

will report back when screen arrives and solder in place

Cheers,
Paul
Hi Paul,
Great article, just about to do this myself.

I know it's been a while since you did this, but can you possibly if still active or anyone else, share a place to get VAG Commander please.

Thanks

Hello there,

Apologies for jumping in but I might be able to assist.

As I’m possibly not too far away (LE67) then you could swing by here where I have SKC retrieval capability and will have you sorted in minutes if arrival.

Failing that just have a look around online on the usual places and you’ll find what you need. I take it you already have VCDS, be aware that your cable might not work with VAG Commander 1.4 or VAG EEPROM Programmer 1.19.

Kind regards,

Tom

That is correct. Do not use a VCDS lead for VAG Commander or vice versa. Get the correct lead and mark them up so as not to accidentally use the wrong lead with the program. I do not have this problem as I have the VAG Commander lead and full fat VCDS.
