DIY Spring replacement

Hi folks
Just had my recently acquired A2 up for an MOT (failed!) so I have a broken right rear and left front spring to replace
Is this a DIY job?
Are there any other parts I should be replacing when I am doing this job - thinking front strut top mount maybe?
Thanks in advance

Always replace suspension parts in pairs. So that is all 4 springs, both front top mounts. both rear spring seats. Then depending on the condition of the shocks and the bump stops you may be better changing them now also the drop links. Worth checking the condition of the lower suspension wishbones on the front and replacing if corroded. Bill is getting bigger...

Yes its a competant DIY job. Springs should be done in pairs and for the price of new shocks it would be worth doing them at the same time. Using premium brands can add up, but even budget stuff will be better than 20 year old factory stuff. When chnaging the top mounts i'd suggest using Polo 9n ones as they are stronger.

OK thanks guys
The shocks should be OK as they go through a pretty rigorous test here in Northern Ireland for the MOT where it has just been today
The 2 front drop links have just been replaced and the right front wishbone (cast type) has just been replaced as the ball joint had some play - the other side is rock solid and again well tested in the MOT here
Any idea on a part number for the Polo 9n top mounts?
Cheers

I used KYB springs that I purchased from eBay, cost was about £35 for the pair.
I also replaced the top mounts as mine were shot to pieces

If you are going that far then yes replace the lot. Saves the hassle of trying to disassemble the top mount and spring from the strut although they will obviously have to be assembled before fitting to the car.

Just thinking that I should be able to replace the springs and top mounts without having to disconnect the lower ball joint and driveshaft??

Strut has to be removed from the car. Not enough access for spring compressors. Lower ball joint and drive shaft do not need to be disconnected, only the pinch bolt that secures the strut in the hub assembly.
