Do you have a red A2????

Thanks for that clarification.

I believe 2k means there are two components, a base and a hardener which had to be mixed before painting.
Not directly connected to different layers of paint or laquer.

From my observations, it appears that red vehicles from many different makers suffer from lacquer peel, in contrast to almost every other colour from those same marques. Royal Mail vans are perhaps the most frequently seen examples. I have no explanation but do know that I'd avoid buying any red car!

Without a proper sun protection on a red car it will always oxidise. The more time It spends in direct sun, with only being washed with wash and wax at best, it will go flat and/or peel depending on paint type.

Part of the problem may be due to the colour itself. Red cars appear red because they are absorbing all the other colours of light in the visible spectrum and red has the lowest energy so, by definition, red paint has to absorb the much more energetic (and damaging) light wavelengths.

If UV damage is a factor in the lacquer separating from the car then red will have the highest propensity to absorb blue light and UV so it’s maybe accelerating the wear.

Just a guess. I’m a scientist not a painter Jim.

I've just looked at a Corrado G60 (1992) which although mechanically and electrically excellent had probably the (2nd) worst laquer peel I've seen on a car (apart from cars in Canary Islands). It was a lovely car, but was going to need a complete respray.

I also remember Mars Red Golfs etc. from the 80s always turning pink in the sun after a few years.

Yes, I got a Misano Red A2 3L 2005 from Netherlands a fortnight ago, and some of the panels were rather dented so I decided to get a 'donor car' to swap the panels over and make the 3L perfect. Original panels have some lacquer peel but have had some of the worst paint respraying that you have ever seen.
It has winter tyres on it so I only got 87 mpg on run from Arnhem to Chester vis Dover, but I was driving at 120 kmph, so once it is sorted it should be okay.

Yesterday I bought a 2005 Misano Red A2 1.4 petrol from Bristol and it drove home perfectly . Very little lacquer peel and panels all pretty good, so it is going to be swapsies time.
The trickiest bit will be changing the glass out of the 3L doors, as the glass is thinner and lighter. I may just weigh the two doors to check the weight saving and if it is only a couple of kilos, it may not be worth the candle.
Next stage is to put a 40 litre tank on the 3L to give it sufficient range for a Land's End J O'Groats non stop run.
I'm aiming for 120 mpg and to beat the current record.
The newly uglified 1.4 petrol which has a new MOT will be up for grabs at a bargain price, whilst the shiny new 3L will cruise its way up the UK.
Red always has been the worst paint colour for degradation, look at all the chalky red cars of all varieties that you see.
Apparently this is because red reflects the relatively low energy red light wavelengths but absorbs the high energy blue/violet ones.
If anyone wants a mechanically sound yet really ugly 1.4 petrol to use for a van/scaffolding lorry/coal delivery lorry........... or I might keep it for spares. Along with the other dozen.

Would be great to see some photos of it. How are you going to get around the narrower wheel arches on the 3L? Obviously the rear ones will swap over ok, but the front ones are part of the wing. All the little aerodynamic features are what add up to the 100+ mpg on the 3L.

Fortunately, the wheel arches are absolutely fine which makes the task all the easier, as is the boot with its different spoiler.
The front wings just need a spray, so an easy job, and I have the paint on order.
I think that it is a day's work if all the parts line up well, which I am sure that they will.
Neither car has been hit, so it should be okay.
I will let you chaps know once I have my Guinness WofR slot booked, they are being a bit slow.

Are you sure they're both Misano Red?
On a 3L that should have been a special Order colour and I don't think those were available for 3Ls.

Meanwhile If the 1.4 was Misano, it would have to be a Colour.Storm with corresponding black trim (or again, a, this time plausible, special order).

Maybe they're brilliant Red?

Re topic, my Misano CS has some small patches of Peeling paint < 2 cm2 that seem to correspond with either nearby rock chipping or Impact damage from e.g. a garage door. No obvious problems otherwise.
