Dogbone mount/Torque bar

Just wanted to thank Philip for the confirmation that the Polo torque arm works! I changed the gear oil on my wife's car yesterday and noticed that the subframe bushing on the arm had perished, so I need to change the arm. The A2 specific part is ridiculously expensive so it's good to know I can order the Polo part and just swap the engine side mounting plate.

eBay - Febi Bilstein 31124, there are lots at around £25 delivered.

someone needs to clear this up, but i'm sure this is for the petrol version, fits yes but longevity is surely going to be reduced on a tdi?

I specifically informed the parts guy that i required the polo tdi one and i recall there were 2 options came up and the tdi of course was the most expensive, although still cheaper by some compared to the genuine part, harder compound i guess on the bushes.

I just swapped the 31124 and physically the arm itself is 1:1 with the A2 arm apart from 2 chamfers cut on to the part that surrounds the subframe bushing and the arm itself is just a tad thinner. This could also be due to the fact that the Febi/Bilstein part is not OE. The rubber could be harder, but comparing it to my old one it seems 1:1 and also works just fine. The gearbox side mounting plate is different, but it's easy to use the original A2 part.

Last year I also replaced the dogbone on my TDI with a Polo unit looking just like the one in the photo from TDIaholic, as in it was a little thinner then the original. It lasted just over 6 month before it broke in half right at the thinnest part of the arm. One of the bolts in the mounting plate had worked itself out which probably caused extra strain on the dogbone itself, but I was still very surprised to see that cast aluminum had simply broken in two.

So I ordered another one, but this time for a Skoda Fabia TDI. On photos it looked identical but when I did a side by side comparison to the broken Polo unit I could see that the Fabia one was much beefier on the arm between the two mounting holes. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was a Febi unit. Anyway, with the new beefier Fabia dogbone mounted, it felt stronger and completely eliminated the sligth vibration/rocking sensation when releasing the clutch in first gear. So now I have a nice and smooth take off in first and no rocking feeling when getting on and off the throttle.

Just my experience.. Alex.

Does anyone have a dead car or dogbone with the original gearbox mount in place, my car didn't come with one and as it's in bits I'd like to one back if possible and I have purchased the Polo part which didn't come with one, any offers?

FEBI 108779 seem to be the beefier Fabia TDI dogbone.
