Door window frames

How easy is it to remove the side door window frames?

It is the black frame around the top part of the doors.

I may have a go at tinting my windows, if it is not too hard to remove these :)

If you're going to tint, get it done professionally.

It's the bottom rubbers which are the hardest part apparently on the A2 and for the sake of £150-250 (depending on how many windows you get tinted), it's worth it, knowing that you are getting the job done well.

I've just had Pentagon Supaglass fitted to Tank and it is superb - a lot thicker than tint material, it means that all but the most determined of thieves or car jackers will be thwarted. Cost for fronts and front quarters, £180

Cheers,

Mike

I have tinted windows before, and they came out superb!

I also have aquired some pro tint film, not the el cheapo stuff found in halfords. :)

I wont bother with the rear screen as it is tinted enough, i have 35% tint film for the sides.

I will give a rear side windows a go, if it does not come out right off it comes :D

I'm not doubting your skill, and I think your plan to do the rears first is the right way to go - I wouldn't put 35% on the fronts though as it'll attract unwanted attention!

I speak from experience, having been stopped last week by Mr Plod! A lot of bluff on his part, but as my windows were reading 29% on the meter and there is a 3% margin of error, he just issued a £30 penalty notice and 'advised' me to remove the tint!

I took the opportunity to get Supaglas fitted - it's something I've been thinking of for a while, with Tank having so many toys inside, it just keeps the bad people out.

Thanks for the advice Mike.

Can i ask what level of tint you did have on the fronts before the kind policeman stopped you.

I originally had 35% on the rears to match the factory tint on the Opensky and rear screen and 50% from the B pillar forwards. This should have given a VLT of 35% when you take the slight factory tint into account, but it was obviously out a little.

If you approach Pentagon (who are certified by Audi UK), they will give you their advice as to what to apply. It seems that they are pro-actively involved with the Metropolitan Police, who now accept the fact that a slight amount of extra tint can be beneficial, such that anything over around the 40% mark will not be challenged!

Also, Pentagon will help out if you are challenged. The main reason I got Supaglass though was to prevent people getting into Tank, who shouldn't be there.

Take a look at http://www.pentagonglasstech.com/videos.php?1 for more info on this security product, which can now be specified for A6 and A8 models from new!

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks again!

I will see how the rear sides turn out, then if it looks a good job i will take the risk and purchase some 50% for the front sides.

Cheers,

Paul. :)
