DPF retrofit?

Hi All,

Was curious more than anything if anyone looked into it - had a look and mostly German forums (google translate) seem to mention it but nothing of much substance, some suggesting to just put it in to get the "green sticker" without it really doing much as long as it had the labeling. Seeing as when i had mine MoT'd only emissions tests run were the "smoke" ones and get a pass cause it does not smoke like a truck.

With the ULEZ spreading it doesn't sound too far fetched to just retrofit a filter - though who knows how would government paper pushers would react to that, when checking on website my TDI 90 comes up as having the extra charge, though some members did mention in another thread that TDI 90 was except.

Mrs. fiat 500 washing machine/dish washer combo does have a DPF but still has the additional charge, more i read more i feel government has no idea what they're doing with the matter - while i do not need to drive into London it would be nice to have options if the zone is extended.

I have mitlerweile different filters installed. From the Leon, From the Golf, From the T4. Always the DPF-01. All cartridges were always the same. You will find in the report also a dimensional drawing where it can be seen that the cartridge does not change.

The filter is big, right. Fits despite the fact that it is tight. He then just hang down something out.

Looks like a fairly straight forward fit of chopping the catalytic and replacing with the filter. Would be interesting to have option for a self cleaning one but that'd likely require fair bit of modification electronically etc. might be worth while - seeing as DPFs can be had for relatively cheaply.

Thoughts?
 
would involve a LOT more than just fitting a DPF, addblue would be needed and then all the electronics to administer the addblue and monitor and regen the DPF, plus a loss in performance and ecconomy.
Even when all that was done (if at all possible) it would need type approval before the immissions would be altered on the parerwork
 
The DPF the Germans are talking about will only make an A2 Euro4. In Germany, a Euro4 diesel will receive a green card but ULEZ requires a Euro 6 diesel so Euro4 is not that useful in the UK - even if that is possible.

My TDI90 is Euro4L.

No need for Adblue for Euro4 and some Euro5, and you may also avoid doing anything with the ECU if you consider regeneration of the DPF to take place in a passive way only. In Euro4 and Euro5 active regeneration takes place by post-injection of diesel combined with a different EGR pattern. But in order to detect a clogged DPF you would need to measure the DPF differential pressure, and then I guess cost and ECU problems just go skyhigh. So add DPF with passive regen may be feasible.

But in general, EGR and DPF is just bad for you engine and wallet

That makes sense, it does sound like far too much trouble to carry out though considering modification (probably worse getting it approved)
