Draining the fuel tank on a tdi

Hi all I had to drain the fuel tank on my 02 plate tdi se ,here's how I did it.First of all remove the fuel filter ( completely ) located in front of the rear passenger road wheel. This leaves you with three quick release connections and one permanently connected fuel line. This line is the one we want and is connected to a plastic line with a spring jubilee type clip.Compress this clip and slide it up the rubber hose out of the way.Pull the line down and twist to separate the two lines(it will resist).Don't worry about fuel at this point as the only fuel about to run out is residual in the line.reconnect the fuel filter using the three quick connectors leaving the one permanently connected line open.Place a can big enough to catch your diesel under the rubber end of the open line. Now start the car.The fuel will run out at a nice steady rate, don't worry it won't come flying out.The car will eventually cut out.Now drain the fuel filter and reconnect the open line.Top up using clean fuel which if you have used the head you will have obtained before draining the tank.
Starting the car, I tried for ages well 10 mins to start my car with no joy.So I walked away for 10 mins before trying again,it started before cutting out then started again no probs this time:confused:

Hi
Did you take any picture when you drained the tank as a job I got to do as I got a hole to repair in the tank that has been patched poorly

Look at the dates on the thread and the OP's profile. Sadly you may not get a response to this question, as the OP hasn't even been on the forum in over 2½ years. If they do see it, there may not now be any pictures available that would have been taken over 12½ years ago.

Add in there are two versions of the filter... the metal canister type and the plastic housing with the replaceable element....
