Dressing up Interior

Hi All,

I've been eyeing options to re-upholster door trims and potentially the dash with something nice, i can see there are options for faux leather with foam backing which should be quite perfect for what i'd want, first i'll give the door cards a whirl and spread it further if it turns out good.

I've got my eye on some spray on contact adhesive which should work alright, though not sure if it will savagely destroy the plastic of the trim if i dress it up using it - guess i'll find out.

Would love some nice alcantara material as well but that seems to be priced akin to a new kidney... might give some fabric shops a visit to see if i can find anything suitable.

I've seen posts about drilling out clips on the door trim to take it entirely apart - does anyone have size for the self tappers i'd need to put it back together when i dress it up? Maybe anyone near SW London have some tired door trim i could use for experimenting/testing?

Thinking of something like https://www.iwantfabric.com/scrim-foam-backed-faux-leather.html or similar, they have some lovely options https://www.iwantfabric.com/leather#page=1

Plan will be to get some bare material and stick on foam backing to it or get foam backed roll and then nicely dress up one of my door cards after giving it a bit of a strip. Cant imagine the textured plastic bits ever cleaning up if i'd want to remove the material sometime in the future but if it is durable hopefully wont need to.

The self-tappers you'll need for the armrests are M6x16mm hidden-hinge/cabinet screws, the ones with really chunky threads. If you take the pockets and the top plastic sections off as well you'll also need some 10mm ones, even these will be too long for the bottoms of the speaker surrounds.

remember how easily non-original alcantara bleaches in sunlight. Leather that's not intended for automobile use may also have a similar problem.

automotive leather/fabrics will hopefully last alright against the sun (i hope).

Don't think i'll tackle this very soon but will update when i do - if it does last could be a worth while upgrade as interior trim does have it hard - see they have fabric listed for headlining as well - could be worth while to make it feels more luxurious inside.

Thanks for the screw sized Proghound!
