Driver side door doesn't open right away

If I lock the car from the inside with the door button, then unlock it and trying to open using the handler, it doesn't open first try. The second try opens it only, which is the safety open if lock fails, if I'm right. The red light goes off after pressing the button, but the door won't open first try. Passanger side works first try though.
Seems like the lock doesn't see the unlocking. My petrol cap opener doesn't light up either, might be the same issue? Thanks

Yes, it's likely to be one of the microswitches or the solder connections within the drivers door lock. If you have access to a fault reader then a scan might provide you with further details to diagnose the problem.

I got xtool vagcom but it says not supported at central lock option. I look into that switch issue, thanks.

Could be quicker to obtain a working replacement lock assembly and swap over. That way you can take your time playing with the original one and still have a working car. Sounds like you are now having a few electrical problems due to water, so don't be surprised to find the lock is the same.

Yes it looks like, those drain holes needs cleaning asap for sure.

Check under the passenger floor that the ECU and CCCU are dry also check under the battery. A2 just love to throw electrical problems at us after all it was the only area Audi skimped on when building them. Oh and perhaps the OSS mechanism. Replace the fuses for the front doors even if they are OK.

Okay cheers I'll check those and I've been trying different way and the locking the car, then locking it again and opening it without pressing the unlock, actually made the lights came on few times! That works a few times, then doesn't, then again etc. The more I use it seems that method works better! With the simple opening without door lock doesnt wanna work. Shall spray more wd40? Got a whole new bottle.

The interior lights coming on (fuel flap and alarm buttons illuminating) is a different issue to the lock unlock. The lights flap etc are controlled by the door unlock microswitch which lives under the door lock pawl on the rear face of the drivers door. It is external but fitted to the door lock assembly. The lock unlock microswitches are internal to the lock assembly and WD40 will never reach them.

So its 2 different issues? Great. I've seen guides about changing them so soon I'll be busy for sure. Thanks

In this picture taken from the possible door lock microswitch fault repair guide you can see the internal circuit board. This is what contains the lock and unlock microswitches.Towards the top of the picture you can see a red and a blue wire the door open microswitch is on the end of the wires and is secured bt a small spring clip.

Out of curiousity, when you want to get out are you removing the key first then trying to open. The way the car locks on the internal switch is more of a deadlock and that does take 2 pulls to overcome and should be the same for all 4 doors. However taking the key out cancels the deadlocking and a single pull is all that is needed again for all 4 doors from the inside. If that is how all are working then the lock unlock is as it should be, if however when you take the key out and open the drivers door and there is no DIS, interior lights or fuel and alarm button illumination then it is only the door open microswitch at fault.
