Drivers side window not working

Could be the electric window motor thats behind the doorcard. Is there any noise at all?

I think you are best off removing the doorcard and taking the window motor off. Nice easy job to do, its only three screws to remove the doorcard. One behind the tweeter grille and two in the holes in the armrest. It then pulls off by putting your finger in a small recess at the very bottom of the doorcard and pulling. Then remove the motor, the silver box with wires going into it by undoing the obvious mounting points.

Behind this you will see a blue circular item with metal cord wrapped around it. This is the wires of the window regulator. If these are worn or twisted then it would indicate the window regulator is nackered. If they look fine then it may well be the motor. Let me know if you need anymore guidance and I have all the replacement parts here also if needed.

I had the same issue when I first bought my A2, the previous owner said the drivers side window had stopped working for no apparent reason, I replaced the switch as it didn't feel great, to no avail. Checked the fuses for the windows and they were fine, unplugged the fuse for the comfort module for about 10 seconds (originally just to check if the fuse was ok which it must have been as the other window and the locking was working) plugged it back in and my window worked! One touch wasn't working even after trying to calibrate it, but after cycling the ignition one touch worked too and it has been fine ever since, might be an easy repair for you?

Regards,

Mike.

Also worth checking the multi plug which connects the door wiring to the cars loom at the B pillar, could have got water in it and therefore corrosion. Pull of the rubber gator and you will see the plug, un mate it and look at both halves to check condition. Does the mirror move OK and the speaker work ? they are different wires in the same connector so whilst no certainty it may give an indication.

cheers,

Hi all, just before work my window went all the way down and didn't wanna come back, tried ignition on-off and pressing up-down many times, but nothing. Occasionally when it almost moved, stopped right away. I had to park close to a wall not to make it obvious. Great timing.
Few hours later on my lunch break I tried it again, same methods as above, read on forum about the 10 seconds holding button to reset it too, but nothing from occasional trying-to move for a second noise. Checked fuses, but all good. Then after 20 min when I almost gave up, the window suddenly began moving up and closed properly. Yay.
Now it seems going up-down okay, but the one-touch button doesn't work anymore. It moves till I hold it. Other windows work good.
Does it mean the switch will go soon or just the one-touch gone?
Also the painting on them is peeling off badly, how can I repaint it? Cheers

Ignition on, drop windows all the way down. Hold down again for a couple of seconds, now raise them all the way up. Hold up for a couple of seconds. This normally resets the one touch. Don't bother trying to repaint just replace the switches that are worn.

Thanks that worked right away :)
If the one-touch shall fail again for any reasons, is it okay to leave it like that? Or it can break something inside?

No just repeat the process to reset the windows. If something else is faulty just let us know and will try to help.

i had a problem with the motor assembly before, one of the teeth were giving and seems the motor burned out - would sometimes catch until it stopped entirely - luckily in closed position.

Whole assembly cost about 10quid off ebay so really wasn't that bad and replacing is quite easy, half hour jobby taking the door card off and undoing few screws.

Could be something worth checking if it keeps playing up.

I recently had my passenger window not wanting to go all the way up. I removed the motor and it was fine.
I removed the metal door panel enough to access the winder mechanism from above and greased the cable. That did the trick and it goes up and down smoothly and reaches the top again.

Could be that the drivers window switch has had it and same for rear door lock, but if you have a lot of gremlins then it could well be the CCCU aka comfort unit under the passenger footwell that's on its way out.

Well the main Gremlins are Passenger door lock, drivers and passengers windows, and looks like a fuel flap release button does not work! Also funny wining noise then accelarate and braking this engine, but its more mechanical stuff! Also would like to appologise for my English, its not the best as iam Foregner!

Hi, can i ask for some advice in relation to this thread please. Our passenger window has never worked from drivers side in 2 years of ownership. Also now the drivers side is Intermittent, and requires firm depress to work. Any ideas to remedy these please?

Sorry I have not read all the posts.

This happened to me. All I did was disconnect the battery for 5min and it fixed it for me.
