Driving in Europe

yup. due to the unique way the UK is being governed at the moment, rather than continue with GB stickers you'll need 'UK' instead.

I can only assume the Government is in league with Big Number Plate Printers or the Big Sticker industrial complex. Which I always thought were Panini...

This is something that will make a big improvement to safety ( and I'm speaking from experience, here) Fit a split-mirror glass to the passenger door mirror! It's going to vastly improve what you can see from your driving position. and maybe save you from a collision. I'd look for a complete mirror from Germany on Ebay.

No, it's because GB doesn't include NI, whereas UK does. The incompetence of the Brexit government is not the cause of everything that goes wrong in the UK, not quite anyway!

Insurance - covered in standard policy.
I recall in the past that the standard cover abroad was an EU requirement but in reality only gave you 3rd party cover. I'm sure I read that post Brexit you need a "Green Card" plus of course you presumably want comprehensive cover. In the event of a total write-up there may be a need to pay sales tax or similar unless the wreck can be repatriated. Maybe others have more up-to-date info.

European breakdown cover usually includes repatriation of the vehicle, in the event it cannot be repaired.
You and your passengers need to get the post Brexit version of the E111 too.
Mac.

No requirement for green card now.

Hi, another update for anyone contemplating a winter trip. In France, there is some new legislation on having winter tyres now. Varies between regions and it’s probably just relevant to the departments near the Alps but it would be worth checking.
