EGR valve and MAF sensor

Hi All,

Just wanted to give you some inside tips on replacing these items. I recently had two fault codes. One for the egr valve and the other for a MAF fault. I have a 1.4TDi (05) with the BHC engine. I tried for a couple of weeks to get an EGR but they're hard to come by second hand on ebay or anywhere else for that matter (mine was the Wahler 7271D). In the end I gave up and bought a new one from AVS car parts in Norfolk for a very reasonable £103 delivered (Took me 4 hours to change). That dealt with one fault code but the MAF code reappeared after I reset the ECU. Audi in Nottingham wanted £260 plus vat for a MAF. They told me that you can't get the sensor as a separate unit. Odd I thought, given that it has two screws to remove it and you can get the Bosch sensors for almost every other car. Incidentally, I'd bought a cheap pattern MAF 3 months previously and it was rubbish; don't waste money on pattern MAF's! A bit of research later and I found this... http://www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk/PartDetails.aspx?s_pc=PDAFS003 BC&s_vid=13359
Brace yourselves but it appears that the main stealers lied to me! That aside you'll note from the list how many other cars this sensor fits and in fact it's not specific to the A2. I bought a complete new Bosch MAF for an A3 from Ebay for £52 and swapped the MAF sensor over. It now runs like a dream, has cleared the fault code and has stopped chuffin out black smoke. Just proves that dealers like to keep the price artificially high on everything but particularly on low demand parts.
