Electric rear window regulators

Hi all, the a2 I am about to pickup has things wedged in the rear windows stopping them dropping so I think the regulators have gone. I have read you have to take the whole frames out to change them but once it out is it like swapping a normal window regulators?

Unless anyone has some spare frames that work I can buy!
Thanks

The motors/controllers are probably fine. There's a plastic piece in the sliding track in the middle of the lower frame which grips the winder cable. This eventually gets brittle & bits break off around the cable until it can no longer drive the glass upwards - or in this case, even support it at all by the sound of it. You do have to take the whole frame out for this, then remove the glass from the frame, then the broken bit will be blind against the metal track but it can be removed and fixed. Or just put working frames in as you say. The reassembly & positioning of the frame into the door is the same for electric and manual windows.

I've definately got the driver's side there but may also have the passenger. It will be the whole frame with glass for ease of fitting.

Hi All, does anyone know how to remove the rear glass from the regulator/frame? I have got hold of two frames but one of the window glasses needs swapping out for my original one. I cant see a way of getting the glass out the slider once its unscrewed

Thanks

You need to bend apart area where you removed the screw through glass. Some of plastic sits in that hole too. On installation it is slided back into place. In my case bending required enough force to think that "is it the right way?", but sliding it back into place was easy. Maybe some wedges might help...

This worked btw, a bit of gently persuasion and wedging the plastic outwards allowed the glass to come free - Its very tight getting it out of the frame too but worked! I now have two working rear electric windows. I can see why someone put this job off, what a pain
