Emission warning lights on!

Emission control system warning light came on today.
All it says in the owners manual is that it indicates a fault in the
emission control system and to take the vehicle to an Audi workshop
as soon as possible to have the fault rectified.

What would be the most probable cause,
and do you have to go to Audi to have it sorted?
I've never had this happen on any car I've owned ...
so am rather niave on these matters!!
Cheers,

Since you have the FSI (same as me) its likely to be the Nox sensor.
£150 part (or £90 from Europarts...if it fits!).

I am likely to be helping a fellow forum member fit one in the next few weeks. will take pictures.

Interesting!
Light only came on today...so I suppose the next thing is to get a VAG-COM scan .
I will keep an eye out for your postings with pictures on the subject.
Thanks for the reply,
cheers,
Paul.
