Engine Codes

I noticed that crazya2 has posted a thread about glow plugs on his 54 plate Tdi and Skipton01 remarked that the engine codes on diesels usually begin with AMF, and that the BHC prefix was unusual.

I'm sure that my last TDi was an AMF code, as was my Lupo Tdi before. I now have an 05 plate Tdi 75 and this car engine is also BHC coded like crazya2's car.

Is this significant or is it a different engine? I just wondered as I'm not particularly 'anoraked' up on these things!

Regards,

James.

The BHC engine is the EU4 compliant version of the AMF engine and was obviously used from 2004 onwards.

I on;y remarked as there are far more AMFs on the road than BHCs, as they were in production for 4 years, as opposed to 3 for the BHC.

The only other difference between the 2 is that the BHC requires at least 51-rated fuel (the cetane number), as opposed to 49 for the AMF.

The 2 engines are basically the same, bore, stroke, compression firing order etc.

Cheers,

Mike
