@Crgwal

Good to see the VCDS scan even the unregistered version. If you are not aware more information on fault codes is on the Ross-Tech website, a simple way to pinpoint it is do a google search such as 'Ross-tech 17748'.

I never came back to you on the camshaft sensor fault, you say the previous owners garage of ten years standing have tried to cure it and failed, I assume this means new sensor(s). Opinion is always wise to use Audi sensors as aftermarket substitutes have proved unreliable - adage buy cheap buy twice as a rule. Assuming the sensor is good then the above search example suggests timing is out as another cause. I wonder if the garage got the cambelt wrong by a tooth when it was replaced as regular maintainance in their ten year care! I don't think I am buying "the previous owner said he was aware of that issue and that those errors can pop up when you have bad gear changes or missfires and such", sounds like flannel to me, probably fed to him by the garage to cover the lack of a remedy. If a cambelt change is due(?), the fault might well go away as long as the renewal is done correct.

I would park the fault for now and work on the intake manifold.

Yup, black tape was behind the instrument console light.
Another prediction from me, the nice man who sold you the car and the garage that serviced it for him for ten years will swear blind they did not know anything about it.

The problem now with the tape removed, the illuminated EML will be an automatic MOT fail. It needs fixing before then.

Andy

Yeah, so I have until the middle of march to fix her. Been tinkering with other things on the car but close to taking this manifold off!

You were bang on on the info!
