Engine misfire code

1.4 petrol (29k miles) engine lost power and then had trouble starting. Could get VCDS cable to communicate so use hand held code reader. It came up with the following:-
P0302 $10 generic
Cylinder 2 misfire detected

Does the code give a reason or clue to the misfire so I can know where to start looking?

Thanks

Try this ...

You do not say which engine you have but if individual coil packs put cylinder 2 coil pack on another cylinder and see if the misfire follows. Faulty injector also comes to mind.

It is a 1.4 petrol. Sorry for the noddy question but are the cylinder number from left to right looking from the front?

You are by no means the first to ask this question, never be reluctant to ask a question however noddy/trivial.

Yes, the cylinder numbering is as you describe.

As to your engine type, my fault for missing the word code after engine. I was really asking AUA or BBY?

Took a view and bought a coil pack and fuel filter (the car had been standing for some time before we bought it). It was cured with the new coil pack, so fuel filter not necessary but I no harm in changing it.

Thanks, I'll keep my fingers crossed this was a single issue as I've read some horrendous sagas with this fault code.

Excellent news, but I hope you bought a quality coil pack or you will find it does not last very long.
