Engine Mounts

I have some significant engine movement.
1.4 TDi 2005 BHC
I recently replaced the dog mount with a brand new VW Polo 1.9 diesel mount which did not resolve it.

The vibrations/movement are very apparent at idle, even with the clutch dipped (that rules out warn driveshafts etc).

The gearbox side mount appears to be very slack.

Where can I buy new replacement mounts, both gearbox side and drivers side?

Having read almost every post on this issue, I am still none the wiser.

I have heard these VW Polo 1.9 diesel gearbox side mounts work but do not have the support brace mount.
Can anyone confirm?

Any suggestions for the drivers side mount? Links would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Thank you, most helpful diagrams and part numbers.

I am looking for new mounts as my car has covered 69k miles on the original mounts which are now 17 years old, so replacing with second hand used is not an option.

It seems to me that we need an alternative option in the form of mounts from another application that can be adapted easily to fit, in the same vein as the solution that has been found for the dog bone gearbox mount.
Fully agree, I’m amazed that no one has these rep parts, not even AUTODOC.

I have heard these VW Polo 1.9 diesel gearbox side mounts work but do not have the support brace mount.

Hoping someone who has bought one can confirm:

We are now really entering classic car ownership life ! Be interesting to see the surviving number of A2's again. I reckon FSI's are dropping like FSflies. Most nono enthusiast owners are just not bothered to spend time and money now to keep them with an MOT, our breakers are going to be busy!

You can still buy new parts for MGB,s, Minis, Austin Healeys, Triumphs etc from Moss UK. I can't see anything similar developing for A2,s therefore ethical breakers may be our salvation for rare 8Z0 parts.

90+% of my breakers are FSI's.

Yes the polo mount works fine. I have one fitted. You just lose the support bar the goes to near the starter motor.

Also if your happy changing the mounting point bracket this dogbone fits and was much cheaper than what I could find at the time

febi bilstein 31113

Also if you poly bush the dog bone which I have. It will make the steering wheel wobble at idle but they do warn its to harsh . Takes most of the movement out of the whole engine .

A 3-pot engine isn't balanced so needs a certain degree of movement in the mounts to counter the vibration from the imbalance.

Hi folks, I just want to say thanks tor the posts on this thread. My A2 1.4 TDI 75 now has the same engine movement that others are reporting above. It's 20 years old with 228 k miles on the clock now. I bought it 10 years ago to complement my petrol-engined A2 1.4 75 because I reckoned it would be good to drive (economy and longevity), and I stand by my decision. The knowledgeable and skilled team at my Audi/VW specialist independent garage have attempted to source parts and no joy, specifically not at AutoDOC, so I'll report back the option for the diesel Polo. Other jobs looming look to be a new clutch and gear box linkage - I'm amazed by how many original parts this car is still on without needing replacement before now. I'm aiming to hit 300 k miles before any shaking into graves takes place..

If anyone has stumbled upon any source of new parts not mentioned here, I'd be glad to know. Cheers!
