engine running

Help with the following, last few days noticed that tickover at idle appears low, also when you switch on the climate control, the revs appear to go up and down.

When driving at a steady 60mph, and you accelerate there appears to be a flat stop before driving through it. When slowing down and releasing the accelerator the revs seem to drop quickly, which causes a slight jolt.

Any advice appreciated

Alan have you Vag scanned it yet?

If you haven't got Vag Com I can do it for you PM me mate.

SARGE

Cheers Sarge, but getting scan tomorrow......the mechanic suggested throttle body, I have noticed alot of oil aroundd that area where filter housing fastens on???

Picked car up today, mechanic stated the throttle body was caked in carbon, so cleaned that.

He also stated the scan showed the climate control was sending intermitant signals to the ECU, which possibly resulted inb the tick over being up and down.

Anyone heard of this ?

Cheers Alan

Hi Alan
I've not heard of the tickover problem but it's quite feasible. The aircon compressor absorbs quite a lot of power so the fuelling must be increased somehow, particularly at idle otherwise the engine would stall when the CC kicks in. You could try switching off the CC for a day or two to see if the erratic idle problem goes away.

Cheers Spike

Cheers spike, the mechanic said the signal sending is intermitant so could be a one off ( fingers crossed ).

He showed me photo's he had taken of the throttle body before and after cleaning, and that was covered in gunk. So will give it ago.

Alan
