Engine Undertray - or lack of .......

My big problem is my wipers, I took the car to my garage and explained the possible cause was the fuse or earth and the tips I was given. Nothing worked which leaves me in a mess.

You might find it helpful to start a new thread that deals specifically with this issue.

I'd start off by determining whether the problem is with the wiper arm, the motor itself, or the electrical system.

The wiper arm is the least likely culprit, but can be easily checked by turning on the ignition and then starting the wiper. Check the wiper arm at the base. Is the wiper motor running, and is the arm failing to lock to the splines that make it rotate?

Beyond that, how handy are you with a multimeter?

@Motoman are you or a friend in a breakdown service that could come and look at the wipers?
I would REPLACE the fuse regardless. The wipers only work with the ignition on, so turn them on and listen for any noise ( take the bonnet off first ). If you can hear a turning noise but the wiper arm is not moving then either the connecting rob from the motor to the mechanism has come off or the wiper arms are loose on their spindles ( unlikely ) If there is no noise then still with the wipers switched on and the ignition on use a jump lead to connect the body of the wiper assembly to the engine block. If it now works the earth connection in the wiper has failed. " choices clean and repair the connection in the plug and socket on the motor or using a self tapping screw fit a length of cable to the motor and also to a chassis earth. If this still did not fix the issue then the wiper stalk could be faulty.

Do agree that this should be on its own thread for clarity.

Hi Steve, my problem with mechanical faults is age and arthritis, I have to rely on others to fix anything that goes wrong. My garage checked the fuse and tried a separate earth as the earth in the four pin plug failed, he suspects the wiper motor may have gone but thinks someone from AO2 knows the A2 better than him, brand new motors are on eBay and he can fit one if required.

Why not buy a good second hand motor from one of our breakers and ask your guy to swap it over? It's very easy to swap the motor over. About 15 mins.

For clarity, @Motoman 's wiper problem is now being discussed in a separate thread:

I’ve just bought a new diesel one from our local Audi dealer. The petrol version is identical but without the noise insulation, it appears to be no longer available. Either fits

Thank you, I had one from TPS via my garage, all fitted and working to keep my bottom clean. Sorry, my typing runs ahead of my brain.
