Enjoying the new A2

Hi all,

Glad to be welcomed into the A2OC family.

I have recently acquired (from a generous family member) an Audi A2 1.4Tdi for my son who passed recently. Seems an excellent choice of car for a new driver.... plus I get to enjoy driving it too.?

Just 2 (common?) issues I have so far

- it has the old style wipers with hige u hooks, probably need to change them as can't find any blades to fit (I have seen a number of posts on this topic)

- gear changing bit stiff, and ignition gets stuck some times - hoping a gear linkage cable change will resolve.

Other than that really enjouying this ace little car.

A petty it is diesel as I live in London, so ULEZ means I can only enjoy for about a year :-(

Just get a petrol one ? they’re still good, and the gearbox is lovely and light!

Welcome. I hope your son treats the A2 with the respect they all deserve.

I just had a quick look at ebay and found a new style 'floppy wiper blade' that fits the hook type arm. Less than £7.00 delivered. I don't know how to link the listing but it's 'For Audi A2 2000-2002 Front Window Windscreen 28" Flat Aero Wiper Blade'.
By 'the ignition switch getting stuck' I assume you mean either that you need to waggle the steering wheel before you can switch on, which I think is pretty normal, or the key won't come out, in which case I'd try a couple of drops of oil.
The gear linkage can be re-set but that's beyond my skill level. Someone else will be along to advise.
Enjoy the car and the forum.

Thanks for the Wiper recommendation - that seems the one!

For the key issue, it actually gets stuck in and really needs a bit of force to remove - read somewhere on hear could be to do with gear linkage (as not in neutral correctly). Getting that checked out soon so hopefully all related.

I hadn't linked the key problems to the gear change one. As I said before, the linkage can be adjusted and those who have done it report back that it makes a considerable difference, assuming they had problems before. Try a Google search using 'A2OC gear linkage adjustment'; the forum's search facility isn't always the best option.
I forgot to address your final problem in my previous response. That's the easiest to resolve - move out of London! Property prices, buying or renting, are far cheaper elsewhere, particularly north of Birmingham, you'll be surprised to see that people smile at strangers, and, in many areas, you can still enjoy driving your A2 (and other cars too).

A petrol A2, be it a 1.4 or a 1.6FSI, are mostly all Euro 4 so are exempt from the ULEZ charge. There are some very early 1.4 that are Euro 3 so not exempt, but they would be on X or early Y plates.

As Jeff has said

Then you can buy one of each type of A2 with the money you have saved.......;)

LOL - I am a Mancunian who made his way down to London for just a year (now 25 years ago!!) - so I am one of the odd one's down here who do smile on the Tube...

For the ignition issue I see a lot of threads like this (not A2OC) which mention the key being stiff - which is exactly what I have. Planning to look on the weekend so will let you know.
