EPC/Engine Management/Battery lights

This is my first post - as you seem to be a friendly and knowledgable group, I hope someone might be able to help.

A2 1.4 petrol 2002, 56,000 miles - bought 3 weeks ago with a full service and 3 months AA warranty.

Love the car even though the EPC and Engine Management lights come on intermittently and then go off for no apparent reason.

Driving along last night, the lights come on again along with the battery light and the engine cuts out immediately. Very scary. 4 attempts to get it started again. Driving v.v.v. carefully and it happens again.:eek:

Now back at with dealer (Edwards Motors in Box) and have requested a full circuit test and diagnostic check.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

Many thanks for reading this plea for help!:)

Hi Laine, welcome to the A2oc
There is no one common problem which would cause the engine to cut out so your request for a diagnostic check is spot on. If you can get the fault codes we may be able to offer more advice.

Cheers Spike

Many thanks for your reply, Spike, and to all who looked at the post.
It is very re-assuring to know that you are out there!
The car is at the workshop just now so I'll be sure to send an update with the outcome.
Take care, Laine.

Just to follow up on the problem I had experienced with the 3 lights appearing on the dashboard.
Th diagnostic fault was P1158 - it should that there was a wiring problem and the MAP and temperature sensors needed to be replaced.
Seems to be okay now, just hope it stays that way!
Hope this follow up might help someone else.
Thank you for the info on the the website - was a great help in coping with an utterly objectionable dealer.
Take care, Laine
