Egr Valve Shut

Hi all
my wife and i had a proplem with the egr valve being permimettly shut although no apparent loss in performance apart from the engine management warning (eml) light being lite took it to our local garage to be diagnosed, not sure of fault code but egr valve was said to be knackerd, new egr valve fitted and callibrated to the car, 2 miles from the garage eml back on ,back to the garage retested for fault egr valve stuck fully open, garage suspected faulty new valve replaced with another new valve egr valve but still stuck in open position.

has anyone had similar problems, can any one help, garage appear to be struggling. ongiong

Could be the solenoid change over valve that controls the EGR valve that's faulty or a leaking vacuum pipe somewhere, EGR valve is a mechanical device operated by a vacuum controled by this other valve that's controlled by your cars ECU
Your car will run with this EGR disconnected and the vacuum pipe plugged quite happily, several members have done this, I have to my A4 and the A2 engine is 3/4 of one of these.
